TEACHER'S TIPS

BECAUSE LEARNING CAN ONLY HAPPEN IN AN ENVIRONMENT THAT IS CONDUCIVE TO LEARNING.  IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT THE CLASSROOM TEACHER MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE CLASSROOM.  TO GIVE UP AUTHORITY IS TO INVITE MINIMAL LEARNING.   LISTED BELOW IS WHAT I CALL THE " TOP TWENTY" SUGGESTIONS FOR DISCIPLINE THAT HAVE BEEN TRIED AND TESTED BY MANY SUCCESSFUL VETERAN TEACHERS.   ALTHOUGH STRATEGIES MAY SOMETIMES HAVE TO BE MODIFIED.IF PRACTICED FROM THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS AND IMPLEMENTED FIRMLY AND FAIRLY, EFFECTIVE CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT WILL OCCUR.

1.    LEARN EARLY TO RECOGNIZE THE REASONS FOR STUDENT MISBEHAVIOURS SO THAT YOU CAN
EFFECTIVELY RELATE TO THEM: ATTENTION GETTING, POWER, REVENGE , OR AVOIDANCE OF
       FAILURE.

2.    DO NOT SIT BEHIND YOUR DESK. BE ACCESSIBLE TO ALL STUDENTS.

3.    ALWAYS HAVE A LESSON PLAN AND PLAN MORE THAN STUDENTS CAN COMPLETE.MODIFY
ASSIGNMENTS WHEN NECESSARY , AND DO SOMETHING ELSE IF THE LESSON ISN'T WORKING !!!

4.   MINIMIZE " DOWN TIME " OR " FREE TIME ". HAVE SOMETHING WORTHWHILE GOING ON IN THE
      CLASSROOM AT ALL TIMES.

5.   DON'T OVER LABEL OR OVER PUNISH STUDENTS, AND DON'T PREJUDGE THEM BASED ON PAST
PROBLEMS OR PAST PROBLEMS WITH SIBLINGS OR FAMILY MEMBERS.

6.  MAINTAIN A SENSE O HUMUR SO THAT STUDENTS WILL KNOW YOU ARE HUMAN, BUT LEARN EARLY
TO GIVE  " THE LOOK" TO DISRUPTIVE STUDENTS TO RETURN TO TASK.

7.  LET STUDENTS HELP SET CLASSROOM RULES, INDENTIFYING REWARDS FOR GOOD BEHAVIORS
AND CONSEQUENCES OR PUNISHMENT FOR MISBEHAVIORS.

8.  BE FIRM BUT FAIR IN IMPLEMENTING RULES.CONSISTENCY WLL MEAN YOUR SURVIVAL !!!!

9.  DON'T NAG OR HOLD GRUDGES , AND KNOW WHEN TO BACK OFF !!

10. RECOGNIZE YOUR OWN BIASES AND PREJUDICES.

11.  MAKE THE CLASSROOM LOOK LIKE A LEARNING PLACE, ON ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY
        LEVELS.

12. TRY NOT TO " LOSE IT " NO MATTER HOW ANNOYING A STUDENT BECOMES OR STUDENTS WILL
BEAT YOU AT YOUR OWN GAME.STUDENTS WILL NOT LOSE FACE IN FRONT OF THEIR PEERS!!!

13.  DESIGN A GROUP LESSON OR PROJECT AROUND  A BEHAVIOR SO THAT STUDENTS WILL LEARN
WHAT  IS EXPECTED OF THEM. THIS WILL PROMOTE CONSISTENCY AND ELIMINATE THE NEED FOR
       YOU TO INTERPRET RULES.

14.  MAKE CRITICISM OF  STUDENT SPECIFIC, CLEAR ,POLITE AND IMMEDIATE.

15.   DON'T TEMPT STUDENTS INTO  MISBEHAVING ( EXAMPLE: LEAVING CLASS UNATTENDED )

16.   DON'T BE TOO HARD ON PARENTS.THEY ARE SENDING YOU THE BEST THEY HAVE, AND
SOMETIMES THEY TOO HAVE DIFFICULTY REARING STUDENTS.

17.   ALLOW SOME CONTRUCTIVE NOISE IN THE CLASSROOM SO THAT RESTLESS STUDENTS CAN
         RELEASE ENERGY.

18.   ESTABLISH  A TIME OUT PROCEDUCE, EITHER IN YOUR CLASSROOM OR IN ANOTHER AREA
        AGREED UPON WITH PEERS.

19.  ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO SEEK ATTENTION DIRECTLY WHEN THEY NEED IT INSTEAD OF SEEKING
        IT THROUGH MISBEHAVIOR.

20.  EXPECT STUDENTS TO SEARCH FOR AND EXPLOIT YOUR WEAKNESS. IF YOU MAKE A MISTAKE ,
       PROMPTLY ADMIT IT AND APOLOGIZE.
